Victoria & Reyna's Home

Victoria and Reyna's Story

Victoria and her daughter Reyna come from the Yucatec Maya community. Victoria is a widow whose severe rheumatoid arthritis confines her to a wheelchair and prevents her from using her hands, so Reyna—who has a developmental disability—has become her main caregiver and the backbone of their home life. They raise a few chickens that provide a modest income from selling eggs. Their wooden house leaks when it rains, and light penetrates the thin walls, making daily living difficult. Both women identify as Christians, and their faith remains strong in the face of hardship.  Meeting them during last year’s WOW Mexico mission trip inspired me to rally support to construct a proper home for them.
